Sister Kathleen Early, G.N.S.H.

Sister Kathleen Early, G.N.S.H., (formerly Sister Mary Rose), 94, a member of the Grey Nuns of the Sacred Heart for 73 years who taught in the Diocese of Brooklyn, died Oct. 9 at St. Joseph’s Manor in Meadowbrook, Pa.

Sister Sylvine (Frances) Czarnecka, C.S.F.N.

Sister Sylvine (Frances) Czarnecka, C.S.F.N., a longtime educator who served at three parish schools in the Diocese of Brooklyn, died on Oct. 3 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Convent in Monroe, Conn. She was 95.

Sister Marion McLinden, O.P.

Sister Marion McLinden, O.P., a longtime teacher in the Diocese of Brooklyn and a member of the Sisters of St. Dominic, the Congregation of the Holy Cross, Amityville, for 66 years, died on Sept. 20. She was 84.

Sister Kathleen Frances Lindsay, O.P.

Sister Kathleen Frances Lindsay, O.P., the founding principal of Our Lady of Hope’s parish school in Middle Village and a member of the Dominican Sisters of Amityville for 82 years, died on Sept. 26. She was 100.

Sister Margaret Mary Fearon, C.S.J.

Sister Margaret Mary Fearon, C.S.J., formerly Sister Mary Eunice, died on Sept. 17 at Maria Regina Residence in Brentwood, L.I.

Paul Stanton

Paul Stanton, 66, chairman of the Catholic Committee on Scouting for the Diocese of Brooklyn, died on Oct. 5. His funeral Mass was celebrated at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, Windsor Terrace, on Oct. 9.

Sister Ann O’Hara, O.P.

Sister Ann O’Hara, O.P., formerly Sister Mary Bernice, a member of the Sisters of St. Dominic of Amityville for 60 years, died on Aug. 5. She was 81.

Sister Ann Bernadette Harron, G.N.S.H.

Sister Ann Bernadette Harron, G.N.S.H., a former principal of St. Joan of Arc Catholic School in Jackson Heights and a member of the Grey Nuns of Sacred Heart for 75 years, died on Aug. 30. She was 93.

Sister Nancy Goult, O.P.

Sister Nancy Goult, O.P., a former teacher in the Diocese of Brooklyn, died on Aug. 29 at the age of 80.

Cardinal William Levada, Former Doctrinal Head

U.S. Cardinal William J. Levada, who died Sept. 26 in Rome, is well-known as the retired head of the Vatican’s doctrinal congregation, but his experience leading major U.S. dioceses prepared him for this role.
