Dominican Excellence

Dear Editor: Where I grew up in St. Thomas the Apostle parish, Woodhaven, in the ‘60s, I had a friend who lived across the street. His older sister went to Dominican Commercial H.S. (June 2) and worked in downtown Manhattan for a law firm.

Weapons of Destruction

Dear Editor:  As members of the Kings Bay Plowshares (April 14), we welcome and respect the views of those who write (April 21) in opposition to the defacing and destroying of government property. Our efforts to smash idols and beat swords into plowshares are certainly controversial and should be debated.

Is Baker Case a Priority?

Dear Editor: There is barely a news account – of the U.S. or the world – that does not cry out for healing, for justice, for peace. But I myself have been the most heart-broken over the suffering of the parents and children crossing our border. This is not a horror taking place in a brutal society off the radar. This is not an issue for partisan politics. This is a human rights crime that is being perpetrated in our names as Americans. Families are being ripped apart even in our own diocese: in Fort Hamilton where I grew up, a pizza delivery man was detained and his future in this country now rests in the hands of the court.

No Good from Evil

Dear Editor: Your readers have been writing about activists.

‘The Pit’ in Huntington

Dear Editor: First of all, congratulations to Ed Wilkinson on almost five decades of spreading the news in The Tablet. That is truly amazing when you look back at how fast the 48 years went by. I loved the two-page article on the celebration at World Communications Day.

‘The Mick’ Cancelled

Dear Editor: It is with a grateful heart to our Lord, that the Parent Television Council has announced that the inappropriate TV show called “The Mick” has been canceled, and replaced with a family-oriented show called “Last Man Standing.”

Inspired by Profile

Dear Editor: Antonina Zielinska’s profile of Queens lawyer Sharleen Kraft (May 19) showed that blindness was no obstacle for a determined person to have a full, active life and actively practice a rediscovered faith in the Lord.

Sister Sean Mariae

Dear Editor: Sister Sean Mariae (Sister Kathleen Rose Mulhern, C.S.J.), who died in August, 2016, was my teacher when I was a student for a year at San Conrado in Ponce, Puerto Rico. She was a kind and devoted nun.

Upset by Museum Event

Dear Editor: I am writing to commend reader Richard Hutter (June 2). I agree with everything he said – almost.

Where Teilhard Erred

Dear Editor: It’s been a few years since I’ve read anything by Father Teilhard but if I recall correctly he proposed that at the moment of creation some of the created matter carried a ‘psychic charge’ and that the convergence of this psychically charged matter over time to the point of individual consciousness underscores the evolution of man.
