This past April 2 marked the 15th anniversary of the passing of Pope St. John Paul II on Divine Mercy Sunday in 2005. I remember that night vividly, watching on television in my apartment St. Peter’s Square fi lling shoulder-to-shoulder with people — many of them young adults — chanting “Santo Subito” in unison, as they called (literally) for John Paul the Great’s immediate canonization.
Dear Editor: Mayor Bill de Blasio is telling city residents to inform the authorities on group activities. Now, to begin with, I’m not a fan of Mayor de Blasio but I believe he is right on target with this idea.
Governor Andrew Cuomo shut down the whole state of New York. The place looks like a modern-day ghost town. Every business I saw was either closed or boarded up.

After reading Dale Anthony Pivarunas’ letter on April 11 (“Is Bernie Sanders’s Form Of Socialism Christian?”), I felt I had to respond because he presented a long argument for Bernie Sanders’ form of Socialism and how it can be examined as being very Christian.

Reverend Adnel T. Burgos, a priest of the Diocese of Brooklyn, died on April 11 from heart failure possibly related to COVID-19. He was 57.

Since 2001 — almost 20 years, which marks a generation — the metropolitan area, and especially our own city of New York, particularly in Brooklyn and Queens, has witnessed some tragic events that have called forth from us some good and, at times, heroic responses.
Often, hospital chaplains focus on ministering and supporting patients and families as they battle illness and undergo surgery.
