Hoops Old-Timers Still Talk Plenty of Game

The Old-Timers hosted its 58th annual Hall of Fame induction ceremony and dinner May 5 at Sirico’s Caterers in Dyker Heights. Five new members – of which four were products of the local CHSAA – were enshrined for their basketball accomplishments as they joined the list of over 200 deserving inductees.

Jack Alesi, the former varsity boys’ basketball coach at Xaverian H.S., Bay Ridge, was inducted April 1 into the school’s athletic hall of fame.

Stroll Up Fifth Ave. Honors Patron of Irish

A large contingent of students and faculty from St. Francis Prep, Fresh Meadows and Xaverian H.S., Bay Ridge, were two of the local diocesan delegations to march in the New York St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Manhattan.

Father Guy Morgan, O.F.M.

Father Guy Morgan, O.F.M., 90, a professed Franciscan friar for 67 years and a priest for 62, died March 10 at Bay Pines Veterans Hospital, Fla.

Prep Celebrates Legacy of Longtime Hoops Coach

Tim Leary recently announced that this would be his final season coaching at the Prep. He is set to retire as the winningest coach in St. Francis Prep history as well as the active wins leader among Brooklyn/Queens CHSAA boys’ hoops coaches.
