Sports Round-Up April 22

Jack Alesi, the former varsity boys’ basketball coach at Xaverian H.S., Bay Ridge, was inducted April 1 into the school’s athletic hall of fame.

In his 21 seasons leading the Clippers, he compiled a 345-250 career record to go along with three Brooklyn/Queens diocesan titles, two city championships – including one in his final season in 2016 – and seven coach of the year awards. He is also a member of the CHSAA Hall of Fame.

The CHSAA All-Stars defeated the Public School Athletic League (PSAL), 61-57, in the annual Mayor’s Cup basketball game, played at Baruch College in Manhattan. It was the fourth time the GCHSAA has been crowned the “Best in the City.”

The team was coached by The Mary Louis Academy, Jamaica Estates, head coach JoAnn Arbitello-Pinnock and the following girls from the Brooklyn Diocese represented their league: Emily Bosiacki (Bishop Kearney H.S., Bensonhurst), Saundra Cleckley (Christ the King H.S., Middle Village), Lauren Duggan (St. Saviour H.S., Park Slope), Dorothy Matinale (St. Francis Prep, Fresh Meadows), Courtney McCool (The Mary Louis Academy), Kelly O’Donnell (St. Edmund Prep H.S., Sheepshead Bay), Danielle Patterson (The Mary Louis Academy) and Kaitlyn Stenz (Msgr. McClancy H.S., East Elmhurst).
