Father Morgan

Father Guy Morgan, O.F.M., 90, a professed Franciscan friar for 67 years and a priest for 62, died March 10 at Bay Pines Veterans Hospital, Fla..

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at Our Lady of Grace Church, St. Petersburg. Burial was at Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Clearwater.

Born in Brooklyn, and baptized John Joseph at St. Teresa Church, Prospect Heights, he attended the parish grammar school, St. Francis Prep in Brooklyn, and St. Joseph Seraphic Seminary in Callicoon, N.Y.

He was received into the Franciscan Order in 1948 in Paterson, N.J., and professed his first vows there the following year. He was ordained to the priesthood on May 5, 1954 by Archbishop Amleto Giovanni Cicognani.

He served at St. Francis of Assisi Church, Manhattan, 1958-60, before beginning a 20-year stint as a chaplain for the U.S. Air Force. He retired from the Air Force in 1980 with the rank of colonel.

Father Morgan is survived by his sister, Joan O’Connor.
