Dear Editor: There is no doubt that poverty exists and that there are many many poor people in the US and the world.  Christ said, “The poor will be with you always.”

Dear Editor: The last paragraph of Fr. Lauder’s review of Bishop Barron’s Letter to a suffering Church (“Mystery of the Church,” Sept. 14) is the best capsule summary I hope to remember whenever anyone challenges our religion:

Dear Editor: In Maureen Pratt’s article (“What’s in a Number?,” Sept. 7), the author stated that there are more resources for persons who are aging to stay active and explore new interests. I felt compelled to respond because, as Catholics we need to be less vague about how we should be staying active and state some examples on how to explore new avenues for aging lay and religious people.

Dear Editor: Thank you, Allyson Escobar, for covering the story for The Tablet, and to Emily Drooby for covering the story in Currents (One Mother’s Pro-Life Journey, Sept. 21).

Dear Editor: A group of teens walked up to an elderly woman and beat and robbed her. This took place at 169th street, near Highland Avenue in Jamaica on August 4th. She was 67 years old and was beaten with her own cane and was robbed of her cellphone.

Dear Editor: Despite some disagreements with opinions of George Weigel, I was heartened by his column on seminarians (“In Praise of Today’s Seminarians, Aug. 31). Still, I am puzzled by his recommendation that “Biblical studies [at seminaries] must focus on biblical theology far more than textual dissection.” What, exactly, does this mean?

Dear Editor: It’s interesting that the two photos of former NBA referee Deacon Steven M. Javie of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia are shown with his appearing in a referee uniform and a clergy shirt with Roman collar (“Former NBA Referee Makes Spiritual Call, Aug. 31).
