Good Friday in Maspeth

mourners_cmyk Auxiliary Bishop Witold Mroziewski led the annual Way of the Cross procession that is a collaboration of the Maspeth parishes of Holy Cross, Transfiguration and St. Stanislaus Kostka. The faithful walked through the streets to pray in English, Polish, Spanish and Lithuanian, and stopped to kneel at every station. When participants were nearly finished and were contemplating Jesus being taken down from the Cross and buried in the tomb, the skies opened up and released a short but very heavy rain. Participants sought shelter in Transfiguration Church as they concluded their final prayers and received a blessing from Bishop Mroziewski. In his closing remarks, the bishop thanked the police officers who guarded the procession to make sure everyone was safe and the faithful for coming out to pray together and be witnesses to their communal faith.
