Preparing Students for a Changing World
Set in a nurturing, structured environment, Immaculate Conception School, Jamaica, is a Catholic elementary school serving students from nursery through eighth grade.
Students receive diversified instruction. From the academically gifted to those who need general and special education services, we have the resources to help every child grow physically, intellectually, morally, socially, emotionally and spiritually.
Through a variety of religious and non-religious experiences, we strive to develop students of good conscience who can make moral choices – today and in the future. The academic goal is focused on educating children so that they are able to take their rightful places in a changing society. Implementing accepted educational theories and practices for the intellectual development of students, we have launched the N.Y.S. Common Core Curriculum.
The school is especially proud of its Aquinas Honor Society, which has published two books through Arcadia Publishing, created and built a stained-glass window and won several grants. This success is rooted in the approach the school takes to educating all of its students.
Every student takes part in physical education, music, library and computer lab. Extracurricular opportunities include chorus, band, multimedia, drama and chess club. In 2012, the band and chorus produced the school’s first Christmas CD.
ICS also offers a resource room staffed by a teacher who provides guidance and help to students with special needs.
The development of students into committed Catholics, while at the same time respecting the religious beliefs and practices of non-Catholic students, is a priority.
We are also focused on what it means to serve others. The student body participates in mission events on a monthly basis. This year, all proceeds are going to the parishes directly affected by superstorm Sandy.
