CSW2013: O.L.P.H. Catholic Academy, S. Ozone Park

Finding God in All Things

As one of the largest Catholic schools in Queens, Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Academy in South Ozone Park, boasts an enrollment of 670 students, in grades pre-k to eighth, and a faculty and staff that is diligent in their commitment to the spiritual, intellectual, physical, social and emotional growth of each child.
The multisensory instruction at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Academy ensures that each student’s individual need is met. Because every student is different, the faculty and staff cater to a variety of different learning styles. Whether students are visual, auditory or kinesthetic learners, “we help every child find success by including all modalities of learning,” said Frances DeLuca, principal.
Our Lady of Perpetual Help opened its doors in 1927 and has remained dedicated to the development of Christian values ever since.
“Our students find God is all things,” said DeLuca. “They are spiritual, disciplined and compassionate people of integrity. The leaders of tomorrow begin in our school.”
At Our Lady of Perpetual Help, students consistently show outstanding performance in mathematics, language arts and science on New York statewide testing. All members of the 2011-2012 class were accepted into Catholic and specialized public high schools. In many cases, students received scholarships. The students at Our Lady of Perpetual Help benefit from hard work in a nurturing environment, helping them achieve substantial goals.
The learning experience is supplemented with activities such as being an altar server, field trips, math and spelling bees, science lab, gym, library, Spanish as a second language, band and chorus, the after-school program, the academic intervention program, sports, community service, peer tutoring, yearbook, newspaper, dance and drama clubs.
“We really have a great school,” said DeLuca. “It isn’t just about what we offer. It’s also a place where we partner with parents.”
