Invited to Preach in a Church Where I Was an Altar Boy

Experiences in grammar school can positively influence a person for the rest of one’s life. This was certainly true for me. In 1965 I graduated from Sacred Heart Grammar School in East Glendale. I had an extremely positive experience as a little child in that parish school, and in the country-style church that is Sacred Heart. The Dominican Sisters, who taught my siblings and me, planted the seeds in us to be lifelong Catholics who appreciated our faith.

Supreme Court Strikes Down Louisiana Abortion Law

In a 5-4 decision June 29, the Supreme Court ruled that a Louisiana law requiring that doctors who perform abortions have admitting privileges at nearby hospitals could not stand.

He Knows our Unworthiness and Loves us Anyway

Before receiving communion, as the host is elevated and the priests invite us to, “Behold the Lamb of God,” we utter the simple prayer, “Lord, I am not worthy that you should enter under my roof. But only say the word and my soul shall be healed.” He knows our unworthiness, but we have to acknowledge it ourselves to appreciate the gift we are about to receive.
