Dear Editor: Blessed Sacrament School celebrated 100 years of Catholic education this spring. This wonderful event marked the end of an era in Cypress Hills. We will reopen our doors in September, but as Blessed Sacrament Catholic Academy.

Massacre in South Carolina
Dear Editor: “I pledge allegiance to the world to cherish every living thing, to care for Earth, and sea and air, with peace and freedom everywhere.” Beautiful words written by Lillian Genser, but, very hard to think that can truly ever transpire, as we witnessed the South Carolina Massacre, in a church where people came to pray, and worship, only to be tainted by a senseless act of violence.
Memories of Bishop Ford
Dear Editor: Thank you for your column on Bishop Francis X. Ford, M.M., (June 6). For some reason as I read the piece I thought “not only does a tree grow in Brooklyn, but a saint, too.” I am sure that there are many, myself included, who know well who F.X. Ford was, as there […]
The Exercise of Authority
Dear Editor: An article in The Tablet (June 6) revealed that some European bishops desire that the Synod consider Church teaching as not immovable and develop with time. They think that indissolubility of marriage is utopia and advocate greater liberalism in its application. Among our core faith values is that God is Truth and Pure. […]
The Great Professor Catanello
Dear Editor: I would like to express this heartfelt tribute to the late Bishop Ignatius Catanello, who was my professor in New Testament Theology during the Fall 1973 at St. John’s University. I fondly recall Father Catanello as a warm and flexible professor, whose course reflected on select New Testament chapters and verses that were […]
Pay Attention to Women
Dear Editor: On Wednesday, April 29, Pope Francis addressed the problem of “Pay Equality” for women. While I applaud the pope for speaking out on this important issue, closer to home, Francis can lend a hand to end discrimination by having an open dialogue to empower women in the Catholic Church. According to all four […]
The Right Temperature
Dear Editor: I would like to second the points made in Mr. Mayhue’s June 6 letter (Readers’ Forum, Allowing a True Debate), which discusses the strange attraction some left-leaning Catholics evince toward immoral and fascistic governance.
Preserving Precious Freedoms
Dear Editor: To pray or to fast in hopes that the Supreme Court won’t rule in favor of so-called “marriage equality” laws may be a wasted effort. By now, the Court has probably already reached a decision, and the Justices may be at the stage of deciding which of them should have the honor (if such be the proper word) of writing the “Majority Decision.”
Don’t Forget the Orthodox
Dear Editor: You were right to highlight the upcoming encyclical by Pope Francis on ecology. Patricia Kenney (Readers’ Forum, May 23) notes that “The Vatican has been a leader in the movement to respect the environment.”
Discussing Global Warming
Dear Editor: You have recently published a few letters challenging the global warming theory. The letters caution us to do more thinking about the subject than its admirers will allow. I do think that it is about time that those who accept the idea that global warming is true need to let those who have reasons for opposing or at least questioning the theory have their say.
