I remember Father John Maloney when he was at St. Virgilius in Broad Channel, New York. My husband and myself were the first couple he married on Sept. 17, 1966. We will celebrate our 52nd wedding anniversary this September 2018.
Congratulations Father John Garkowski on being a priest for 50 years! You officiated at our wedding on May 27,1972 at St. Andrew Avellino Church I Flushing. We still remember the beautiful homily that you gave when you spoke about building our home on a foundation of love. We live in San Antonio, Tx. My husband spent 20 years in the Air Force and taught for 21 years. I also taught and we are both retired. We have 4 children and 6 grandchildren. Thank you for your fidelity and vocation. May God continue to bless you.
I remember Father Gildea as a young priest at St. Matthew’s in Brooklyn. He was the sweetest man and such a devoted soul. He walked all the way from Eastern Parkway to our house on East New York Avenue to bring my brother the application for the Co-Op exam as he was a public school kid who wanted to go to Brooklyn Prep. We all loved him.
Fr. John Garkowski married us 50 years ago at St Pancras Church. He was just a great person back then , and it is so nice to see his picture here.
