Queens Parish Celebrates, Honors Newly Beatified Vietnamese Priest

The latest beatified martyr from Vietnam was welcomed into the “mother church of Queens” and the hearts of its parishioners on July 12. Father Francis Xavier Truong Buu Diep, murdered in hatred of the faith in 1946, was venerated at the weekly Mass for Vietnamese Catholics at the oldest parish in Queens — Our Lady of Mount Carmel in Astoria.

Our Lady of Mount Carmel Celebrates First Holy Communion

Fifty-one children from Our Lady of Mount Carmel’s CCD program celebrated their first Holy Communion on July 18. Two separate Masses, celebrated by Msgr. Sean G. Ogle, V.F., took place at the church in accordance with state and Diocesan safety guidelines.

Catholic Charities Brooklyn & Queens knows how to party at the same that it helps get kids ready for school. On Aug. 2, it hosted its 11th annual “Kids Fun Day” at Our Lady of Mount Carmel, Astoria, where it had games and activities for children, distributed school supplies and offered free products and medical services from vendors.
