Youth Views: Reflect on the following statement by Pope Francis

Reflect on this statement by Pope Francis:  I would like to encourage everyone to engage in constructive forms of communication that rejects prejudice towards others and fosters a culture of encounter.

Matthew Bavoso, junior Xaverian High School

We live in a world full of unrest and unease. Tearing down boundaries and psychological boundaries will help us all.

Michael Vazquez, junior Xaverian High School

The first thing that comes to my head when I read this is don’t judge a book by its cover. Especially in our world today, it’s imperative that we remain open-minded and don’t be too quick to judge.

Dante Pascale, sophomore Xaverian High School

I agree as people often judge or view others differently because of culture or race. Prejudice is what tears nations apart. We need to work for the good of all.

Jonathan Kroon, sophomore Xaverian High School

Everyone should communicate with each other with respect to their beliefs and traditions in order to prevent racial prejudice or cultural insulting.

Kasey Noss, freshman Xaverian High School

I think what he’s saying is it’s imperative that we work on communication between religious groups, races, individuals, etc. Doing so is the key to a world where we not only tolerate, but celebrate each other’s differences and open our eyes to the beauty of diversity.
