St. Saviour H.S., Park Slope, hosted Vocation Day for freshmen and sophomores in November.
The day started when senior Ariana Quintana spoke about her experience last summer in a week-long program at St. John’s University’s Vincentian Leadership Institute (VLI). Her decision to attend the summer program in Queens was supported by campus minister, Deborah Sucich.
“I was thrilled to have the opportunity to share my experience at VLI with the sophomore and freshman classes,” Quintana said.
“I was even more excited that Dr. Heaney-Hunter, director of the Vincentian Leadership Institute, was able to come to SSHS to speak as well. When Ms. Sucich told me that many of the students stayed behind to ask Dr. Heaney-Hunter questions about the program, I smiled because after talking to the students, I touched many of their hearts through my journey through faith and service.”
Quintana’s inspiring talk was followed by a panel of five guests: Sister Hilda, a Franciscan of Our Lady of the Poor who resides at St. Thomas Aquinas in Park Slope; Brooke and Marta from LAMP Catholic Ministries in the Bronx who are two single women dedicated to mission; and Laura and Zachary Young, a newly married couple.
The speakers shared stories about their love for Jesus and how He leads them to their vocations, sometimes with twists and turns. They shared what they liked best about their vocation and the challenges that they face.
