BALTIMORE — Police are searching for a man who attacked two men who were praying outside a Planned Parenthood clinic on May 26 in Baltimore.
One of the victims has been identified as 80-year-old Mark Crosby. Dr. Jay Walton, president of Baltimore County Right to Life, posted on Facebook that Crosby “and another pro-lifer were attacked from behind and the thug ran away.”
He said that Crosby was being treated at a hospital for “serious injuries he sustained.” Walton also started a GoFundMe page for Crosby, where he said that for years Crosby “has prayed in front of the Planned Parenthood in Baltimore City to let the scared, young abortion-minded women know that they are loved, that their baby is loved.”
According to a police report, doctors diagnosed Crosby with a large hematoma, hyphema, and head and neck pain.
Crosby’s “plate bone in his upper right cheek is completely fractured” and “is bleeding from some unidentified area behind his eye, and the bone eye orbit is completely shattered and will have to be replaced with metal,” according to one eyewitness.
Photos posted by Walton show Crosby with a large lump over his right eye and blood streaming down his face.
Police say the suspect is a 20-something white male with brown hair and a full beard. They said he attacked the men because he didn’t like their pro-life views.
Dick Schaefer, 73, was left with a cut on his hand. A witness told WBAL, a Baltimore NBC affiliate, that the suspect knocked Schaefer “out cold.”
Schaefer told WBAL that he credits Crosby with saving his life, as security footage shows that Crosby stepped between Schaefer and the attacker, who then repeatedly punched Crosby in the face.
The pro-life supporters said they will continue their vigils outside the abortion clinic, with WBAL quoting them as saying, “We are here and we ain’t leaving.”
