Too Much Big Government

Dear Editor: I heard a quote the other day. It went something like this (paraphrased): “The usual right wing, left wing division matters less than the division between the establishment and the rest of us.”

Stop the Music!

Dear Editor: George Weigel (“He’s Not ‘Turning His Back to the People’” (Sept. 3) seems to think that returning to the “Ad Deum” (a.k.a. “Ad Orientem”) mode of celebrating the Mass would be a panacea for the supposed loss of faith among contemporary church-going Catholics. As one who has devoted most of my adult life to the ministry of liturgical music (now semi-retired), please allow me to say that the number one priority for restoring and rejuvenating the spiritual life of the worshipping faithful is: get rid of the pig-slop music!

Voting Is an Obligation

Dear Editor: Did George Weigel (Sept. 17), who normally offers insightful analysis, recently suffer a concussion? With so much at stake, how could he suggest not voting in the presidential election. First, it is a moral duty.

Please Send Your Rosaries

Dear Editor: Hope this letter finds you healthy, happy and peaceful. These days are hard times with all of us worried and praying for the world and each other.

If You See Something…

This week, the ugly face of terrorism once again hit our city with the explosion of a pipe bomb in Manhattan and the placement of several others in the tri-state area.

Fond Memories of Teacher

Dear Editor: It was with deep regret and fond memories that I read in The Tablet of the passing of Mr. Michael Vaccaro, who died on Aug. 18. This gentle man was one of the finest teachers I had in 17 years of Catholic education (kindergarten through college.) Mr. Vaccaro taught World Geography and other subjects at Most Holy Trinity H.S., Williamsburg, during my years of September 1963 through June 1967. He was liked and respected by the entire student body of the school. I have always remembered him as one of the best!

The Choice Is Clear!

Dear Editor: I dislike hearing from Christans that they will not vote for either Clinton or Trump because they are both horrible. My statement: “So you think that Clinton or Trump are bad, but who is ‘badder’?” Yes, Trump is not as polished a politician as are the very smooth Clintons, but do you really want Mrs. Clinton to continue the policies of Obama? Did you forget about the Little Sisters of the Poor? Did you forget about the condoning of baby body parts for sale? Did you forget about the admiration both Obama and Mrs. Clinton have for the late Saul Alinsky?

What ‘Law’?

Dear Editor: James Mack, in an otherwise unobjectionable letter (Aug. 20), accepts the term, “the law of the land” for Roe v. Wade. That has never been approved as a law, to the contrary, it nullified the laws of almost all the states, in an act of judicial abuse. To accept such erroneous terminology is tantamount to surrendering the argument.

Setting Standards

Dear Editor: Brenda Becker Walker (Aug. 20) says she is ashamed of letters that point out some factual realities that, despite her claims of being a journalist, she apparently blocks out of her mind without even-handed consideration.

Today’s Catholic Witness

Dear Editor: It is agonizing to witness the failure of Catholic witness in our times. Barbara Bolton (Readers’ Forum, “The Choice for Life Is Clear,” Aug. 6) appears convinced that abortion is a trifling consideration in her contentions about the experience and preferable temperament of Hillary Clinton to her opponent, despite Clinton’s megalomaniacal criminally and temperamental mendacity.
