More Than 1,000 Rally to Support Mother Cabrini Statue

The cause is personal for Msgr. Cassato. One night in 1953, David Cassato, then 5 years old, was headed home from his grandparents’ house. He turned to his father and asked about a photo he had seen. That night, he first heard about Mother Cabrini, who had helped Msgr. Cassato’s grandparents when they came from Sicily to the Lower East Side of Manhattan on 1910 with nothing.

Dedication Mass Shows St. Michael’s Diversity

At the dedication Mass, readings were done in Tagalog, Spanish, English and Mandarin. The church has parishioners from almost 50 countries, according to pastor Father John Vesey, and has seven Masses every Sunday. Some services were cancelled on  Sept. 22 to encourage parishioners to attend the dedication Mass.

Precious Infants Marchers Rally in Jackson Heights

Bishop Nicholas DiMarzio joined a group of about 50 pro-life activists on Sept. 21 for Mass and Holy Adoration at St. Joan of Arc Parish, Jackson Heights, followed by a rosary march to a local abortion clinic in the neighborhood, all part of the monthly rally organized by Helpers of God’s Precious Infants.

Child Abuse Law Signed in New York Long After Diocese’s Adoption

Fourteen years after the Diocese of Brooklyn began to offer programs in parishes and schools to prevent abuse of minors, Gov. Andrew Cuomo signed “Erin’s Law” on Aug. 29, requiring public schools in New York state to have a similar program.
