On March 8, the St. Francis of Assisi Girl Scouts from Astoria, coordinated by Nancy Zotto, celebrated Girl Scout Sunday at the 9:30 a.m. Mass celebrated by pastor, Msgr. Ralph J. Maresca. Girl Scout Sunday is an annual event celebrated during Girl Scout Week, which honors the founding of the Girl Scouts by Juliette Gordon Low on March 12, 1912. It’s a day set aside for Girl Scout Daisies, Brownies, Juniors, Cadettes, Seniors and Ambassadors “to serve God,” which is part of the Girl Scout promise.

Rockaway Dads Dance with Daughters
St. Rose of Lima Catholic Academy, Rockaway Beach, held its first Father/Daughter Dance last month, and drew over 200 guests, including some of the upper-grade girls and their fathers, above.

Mayor Bill de Blasio recently signed legislation approving the renaming of 74th Avenue in Fresh Meadows in honor of Bishop Ignatius Catanello, former pastor of Holy Family Church, who died in March, 2013. According to Queens Councilman Rory Lancman’s office, the renaming ceremony will be later this spring.
