Seventh-grade Confirmation candidates at St. Andrew Avellino School, Flushing, hosted a Lenten Soup Dinner in the school cafeteria March 13. Father Joseph Holcomb, pastor, blessed the fare before hungry parishioners dipped into their bowls. Students served everything from soup to soup – and oh yes, some excellent bread! Twenty different soups were made by parent volunteers. Above, the organizing committee is at the ready, from left, Kayciel Ramos, Sarah Pavan, Jeremy Lao, Aidan Long and Ethan Dominguez. The students chose to have the dinner proceeds donated to Hour Children, a ministry to help incarcerated and formerly incarcerated women and their children.
