Grace Sullivan, the senior captain of the St. Saviour H.S., Park Slope, varsity softball team, marched as the Colleen Queen in this year’s Great Irish Fair in Coney Island. Her Irish roots have been traced to Drumlish, County Langford, County Cork and County Kerry. In addition to being named team MVP in 2015 for the Pandas, she was selected as a Tablet First-Team Softball All-Star in 2014 and 2015. She and her family attend Good Shepherd parish, Marine Park, where she participated in Catholic Youth Organization swimming, basketball and softball since age three.
CYO basketball coaches are encouraged to attend the annual coaching clinic, held this year on Friday, Oct. 23, at 7 p.m. at Cathedral Prep and Seminary, Elmhurst. The clinic is directed by the CYO and basketball coaching staff at Cathedral Prep. It includes demonstrations of drills and plays; how to organize a productive practice; tips for communicating with parents, players and officials; and discussing the role of a coach through youth athletics. The first 50 coaches to attend will receive a free play board. Parish athletic representatives are asked to contact the CYO office at 718-281-9548 with the numbers of coaches attending from the parish.
St. John’s University, Jamaica, women’s soccer senior forward Rachel Daly became the all-time leader in goals in school history on Oct. 4. She netted her 41st career goal in the match against Marquette University, Milwaukee, Wisc., which moved her passed Adriana Viola for the top spot.
