Sister Mary Quentin Ryan, O.P.

Sister Mary Quentin Ryan, O.P., a member of the Dominican Sisters of Amityville for 79 years who taught in schools in the Diocese of Brooklyn, died on Oct. 21. She was 97.

Born Margaret, she entered the Congregation of the Holy Cross, Amityville, in 1940 and received her religious name, Sister Mary Quentin, a year later.

She taught at St. Catherine of Sienna, St. Albans; St. Patrick’s, Huntington, L.I.; St. Francis of Assisi, Long Island City; St. John the Evangelist, Riverhead, L.I.; and Incarnation, Queens Village.

Her funeral Mass took place Oct. 25 in St. Albert Chapel at Queen of the Rosary Motherhouse in Amityville. Burial followed in the sisters’ cemetery.
