Students in the St. Edmund Prep Education Program, Sheepshead Bay, recently taught an Earth Day lesson to Phil Fama’s ninth grade art class. The juniors and seniors, members of the Future Educators Association, creatively taught the history and significance of Earth Day.
The ninth graders learned how to recycle properly and the impact that daily actions have on the environment.
Students also discussed the contributions of famous environmentalists, the condition of water, the dangers to wildlife and some interesting facts about the Earth. Students then designed T-shirts based on their Earth Day knowledge. At the end of the hour-long class, students understood that everyone can make a difference.
All students in the Education Program are active members of the Future Educators Association (FEA).
The two-year program is designed to support teens who are interested in education-related careers. Students develop skills and strong leadership traits that are found in high-quality educators. All members participate in field work in various classroom settings in both elementary and high schools.
