Sister Kathleen Rose Mulhern, C.S.J., a Sister of St. Joseph, Brentwood, L.I., for 68 years, died Aug. 5 in Maria Regina Residence in Brentwood, L.I.
She entered the congregation in 1948 from St. Stanislaus parish, Maspeth. After earning a bachelor’s degree in education from St. John’s University, she received a master’s degree in the same field from Long Island University.
Formerly known as Sister Sean Mariae, she ministered at St. Joseph, Prospect Heights, 1950-54 and 1969-71; Our Lady of Lourdes, Bushwick, 1954-55; St. Rita, Long Island City, 1955-57 and 1962-63; Nativity of Our Blessed Lord, Brooklyn, 1957-62; Colegio San Conrado, Ponce, Puerto Rico, 1963-66; and Queen of All Saints, Fort Greene, 1966-69.
Her ministry then took her to Long Island, where she served at the Brentwood Education Center, Brentwood, 1971-72; Academy of St. Joseph, 1972-78; St. Anne, Brentwood, 1978-81; and St. John of God, Central Islip, 1981-88.
She returned to Queens to minister at St. Benedict Joseph Labre, Richmond Hill, 1988-89; Concerned Parents of Jamaica, 1989-91; and Ferrini Welfare League, Ozone Park, 1992. She retired to St. Joseph Convent and later moved to Maria Regina Residence.
Interment was at Calvary Cemetery, Brentwood.
Sister Sean Mariae was my teacher when I was a student for a year at San Conrado in Ponce, PR. She was a kind and devoted nun. I’m sorry to hear of her passing. God Bless her.
