Father Peter Purpura was installed by Bishop Nicholas DiMarzio as the rector of St. James Cathedral-Basilica, Downtown Brooklyn, on Good Shepherd Sunday, April 26. He succeeds Msgr. John Strynkowski, who retired. Father Purpura pledged a new outreach program for the 193-year-old parish, which was the first Catholic church on Long Island. Photos by Ed Wilkinson
