Junior and senior students from  Bishop Kearney H.S., Bensonhurst, traveled to Washington, D.C., to visit active duty members of the military, wounded soldiers and retired veterans from World War II and the Korean War.

This was the fourth consecutive year that Kearney girls have generously given their time and talents to personally say thank you to those who sacrifice each day to defend and protect.

This trip was originally planned for November but had to be rescheduled for the spring, due to superstorm Sandy, which affected many in the Kearney community.

While in Washington, the girls paid tribute at the Pentagon 9/11 Memorial and received a private tour of the Pentagon by Col. Michael Gould.

They spent time in service to military members at the U.S.O. center and at the Armed Forces Retirement Home. The students brought gifts, distributed home-baked goods and gave service, while listening attentively to the experiences and memories of those who serve.

The Kearney girls learned living history by gaining insight into the sacrifices of these men and woman and their families.

They also visited many of our war memorials to honor those who gave the ultimate sacrifice and toured some of the historic sites in Washington.
