Deacon Fabio Flaim, a retired deacon from Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal parish, Ridgewood, died May 2 at New York Presbyterian Hospital in Flushing. He was 87.
Born in Italy, he was a tailor by trade. He was ordained to the diaconate by Bishop Francis J. Muagvero on March 31, 1984 and assigned to St. Aloysius parish, Ridgewood.
He retired Nov. 1, 2009.
Deacon Flaim was once quoted as saying, “First, I would like to say that my min- istry as a deacon has been a very fulfilling experience for me. I have had the privilege to bring the Word of God to people in the community.”
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated May 8 at Our Lady of Miraculous Medal Church. Auxiliary Bishop Neil Tiedemann, C.P., was the main celebrant.
Special concelebrants included Msgrs. Andrew Vaccari, Edward Ryan, James Kelly, Sean Ogle and Fathers George Poltorak, Johnny C. Thomas, Jaroslaw Szeraszewicz, Marco Rudecki, and Anthony Sansone, who preached the homily.
Burial was in Linden Hill Cemetery, Ridgewood.
He is survived by his wife, Deolinda of Middle Village, and their children John, Maria, Mario, Rosy, Lucy and Giulio.
