Dear Editor: Patricia Kenney (Jan. 22) suggests that The Tablet should have requested proof before printing my letter concerning my very serious allegations against Catholics in Alliance for the Common Good. Here’s my evidence:
Letters to the Editor
We welcome letters to the Readers’ Forum, but they must include (for verification purposes) the writer’s full name, home address and phone numbers. Non-Italian Pope in the Movies
Dear Editor: I am writing with an interesting thought about St. Pope John Paul II. Did he ever see the movie “Shoes of the Fisherman” starring Anthony Quinn as Kirel I, the first non-Italian Pope, in this case, a Russian? This is definitely a movie to be shown on NET-TV’s Classics series, followed by a wonderful […]
The Evil of Terrorism
Dear Editor: In light of what’s happened in France, we must remember there can be no compassion nor collaboration with evil. However, war is not the answer. People of faith need to pray to the Lord to bring an end to this evil. RALPH RIVERA Elmhurst
Culture and Polygamy
Dear Editor: Columnist George Weigel describes the African church as “firmly committed to orthodoxy” and free from the “culturally entrenched but dehumanizing way of life” especially in terms of marriage. He adds that “European Catholics might… ponder Pope Francis’ summons to learn from the church of the poor.” It is precisely because of their poverty, […]
Wake-Up Call On Vocations
Dear Editor: In his Sunday’s Scriptures column, “Embracing Our Vocations Brings True Happiness” (Jan. 17), Father Robert Powers “wishes that we prayed more often that every baptized person discern and respond to the vocation or vocations to which God is calling him.” In response, I would like to applaud Father Powers. In the Scripture passage (1 Samuel […]
Foul!
Dear Editor: The website of Catholics in Alliance for the Common Good invites people to join their organization by featuring a photo of Pope Francis hugging a disabled young boy and asking people to join them in “fighting for a culture of life, justice and encounter in the public sphere.” Its Pro-Life page includes a […]
Challenging Cuomo
Dear Editor: Only those who desire to be misled would believe that Mario Cuomo was ever “personally opposed” to abortion. Never once did Mario Cuomo say that abortion was evil, intrinsically or otherwise. Never once did he say – as the bishops had, as he himself could have said – that opposition to abortion as a matter […]
Bright Christmas Thanks
Dear Editor: The Tablet’s Bright Christmas Campaign has shed light on the St. Francis House! We are very grateful for your generosity. It was a difficult Christmas this year because of Father Benedict’s (Groeschel) passing. I know he is praying for us and our benefactors who have been so kind to us, since the home […]
Midwood’s Hall of Fame
Dear Editor: The year was 1968. I was a seven-year- old in the second grade at Our Lady Help of Christians (OLHC) when my mother came home from an open school night and told me, “Hey, Ken, someone in your class has a very famous father. I just met the girl’s mother this evening.” I […]
Differing on Cuomo
Dear Editor: I have always looked forward to reading Father John Cush’s columns and he has my utmost respect but this week’s Up Front & Personal (Jan. 10) left me stunned. Why did Father Cush quote Christopher Hale from the dissident group Catholics in Alliance for the Common Good, a notorious pro-abortion Democrat Catholic front group […]
