Dear Editor: I just read about the speech that Tim Kaine made at The Human Rights Campaign Dinner. He spoke about how his views on marriage equality have “evolved.”

Still Working for The Tablet
Dear Editor: Just turned 89, living in Dominican Village, Amityville, L.I., reportedly the oldest deacon in full-time ministry in Rockville Centre Diocese, preach regularly and lead a weekly discussion group which makes great use of The Tablet. Our program is something like today’s exciting Renew/Arise effort and the Brooklyn Cursillo.
Another Olympic Hero
Dear Editor: Jim Mancari’s article (Aug. 17) about the Olympic swimmer was very well done. However, in this present era most Catholic schools, in order to survive, enroll students of other faiths and cultures. Although the Catholic students represented both the U.S. and their local Catholic schools, their main witness was not to their religion.
Sister Gerry Was a Big Hit
Dear Editor: Great story by Jim Mancari about Sister Geraldine Cregg, C.S.J. (Aug. 27). Glad she got some recognition. St. Ann’s Church in Flushing is buzzing. I know her for over 40 years. Still super involved in parish even though she retired.
Diverting Church Attention
The Tablet (“He’s Not Turning His Back to the People,” Sept. 3) revealed that Cardinal R. Sarah proposed a return to orientation whereby, priest and laity face the altar during Liturgy of the Eucharist. This adds to the existing litany of post-Vatican II objections. Such issues have generated acrimonious debates and even schism.
Respect for the Flag
President Obama has come to the defense of San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick and teammate Eric Reid for their kneeling on one knee during the playing of our national anthem before a game in San Diego, as their sign of protest to what they consider is the practice of police brutality within the African-American community.
Fond Memories of Teacher
Dear Editor: It was with deep regret and fond memories that I read in The Tablet of the passing of Mr. Michael Vaccaro, who died on Aug. 18. This gentle man was one of the finest teachers I had in 17 years of Catholic education (kindergarten through college.) Mr. Vaccaro taught World Geography and other subjects at Most Holy Trinity H.S., Williamsburg, during my years of September 1963 through June 1967. He was liked and respected by the entire student body of the school. I have always remembered him as one of the best!
Sainthood for Fr. Capodanno
Dear Editor: Blessed Mother Teresa was canonized Sept. 4 for her life of service to God’s poor.
The Choice Is Clear!
Dear Editor: I dislike hearing from Christans that they will not vote for either Clinton or Trump because they are both horrible. My statement: “So you think that Clinton or Trump are bad, but who is ‘badder’?” Yes, Trump is not as polished a politician as are the very smooth Clintons, but do you really want Mrs. Clinton to continue the policies of Obama? Did you forget about the Little Sisters of the Poor? Did you forget about the condoning of baby body parts for sale? Did you forget about the admiration both Obama and Mrs. Clinton have for the late Saul Alinsky?
What ‘Law’?
Dear Editor: James Mack, in an otherwise unobjectionable letter (Aug. 20), accepts the term, “the law of the land” for Roe v. Wade. That has never been approved as a law, to the contrary, it nullified the laws of almost all the states, in an act of judicial abuse. To accept such erroneous terminology is tantamount to surrendering the argument.
