Brother Labre Tallman, O.S.F., died Sept. 2, in St. Catherine’s Hospital, Smithtown, L.I.
Born Robert Tallman in Brooklyn, he entered the Franciscan Brothers in 1957 from Our Lady of the Cenacle parish, Richmond Hill, having already graduated from St. John’s University.
He taught at St. Anthony’s H.S., Smithtown, while completing his master’s degree at St. John’s in 1963.
Between 1963 and 1973, he taught at St. Francis Prep and St. Francis College, Brooklyn Heights, during which time he was also master of scholastics, 1971-73.
Returning to St. Anthony’s H.S. in 1973, he taught religion while also serving as treasurer. Simultaneously, he held the post of master of novices and general consultor.
Beginning in 1983, he relinquished his teaching responsibilities to focus on his tasks as treasurer and assisting in the transfer of St. Anthony’s H.S. to its current location in South Huntington in 1984.
Ill health led to his retirement from active ministry in 2001. He moved to Saint Francis Monastery, Centerport, in 2013.
Burial was at Holy Rood Cemetery, Westbury, L.I.
