Sports Round-Up Oct. 5

Xaverian H.S., Bay Ridge, hosted its 31st Annual P.O. Hoban Memorial Run on Sept. 15. The 5-mile run keeps alive the memory of P.O. Christopher Hoban, ’80, who gave his life in the line of duty in 1988 at the age of 26.

Sports Round-Up Sept. 28

Margaret Alaimo, a graduate of Stella Maris H.S., and former basketball standout at St. Francis College, Brooklyn Heights, was named a new director of athletics and recreation at St. Joseph’s College, Clinton Hill.

Kings County League Coming to CYO

The new CYO Kings County boys’ basketball league will feature the same rules, mission and values as the parent diocesan CYO league.

Sports Round-Up Sept. 21

The Brooklyn Cyclones, the Class A short-season affiliate of the New York Mets, won the New York-Penn League championship on Sept. 10 with a 4-3 victory over the Lowell Spinners.

Family Hoops Tradition Stays Strong for Alesis

Xaverian graduate Chris Alesi was recently named the new head men’s basketball coach at Manhattanville College, continuing the family tradition of hoops in the Alesi family.

Sports Round-Up Sept. 14

On Sept. 8, St. Francis Prep, Fresh Meadows, played Holy Cross H.S., Flushing, in their annual “Battle of the Boulevard” varsity football game. The L’il Terriers earned a 7-6 victory over the Knights.
