The feast day of St. Joseph has always been a special celebration here at Msgr. McClancy Memorial H.S., East Elmhurst.

Students, teachers, faculty and guests have come together year after year to partake in a special Mass, while indulging in a special meal. Students volunteer to help organize the event, especially senior Angela Masullo, who put the program together.

The main coordinator of this wonderful event is Mrs. Anna Maria Tenaglia. Through her dedication, this was the 21st year of McClancy’s St. Joseph’s Day celebration and I can guarantee it was one of our best yet.

We honored guest speaker, Dr. Mario Fratti, who spoke to the student body about hope, future upbringings and continued faith. Thankfully, we were even able to have Auxiliary Bishop Raymond F. Chappetto as our celebrant. Aside from receiving blessed bread and a delicious meal, this event allowed the students to come together.

Auxiliary Bishop Chappetto celebrated Mass at the East Elmhurst school.

Mrs. Tenaglia reinforced the importance of St. Joseph’s Day, as well as maintaining the roots of one’s own culture.

Regardless of where we come from,  celebrations like this are what bring us together in one simple way. Being that this is my last year at Msgr. McClancy H.S., I can honestly say I will miss partaking in this special event.

Even though I won’t witness it next year, St. Joseph’s feast day, and all the good it brings, will always stay with me.
