Since she was 5 years old, The Mary Louis Academy junior Myah Mitchell has been dreaming of becoming an astronaut. Last month, Mitchell learned that she was accepted into the Disney Dreamers Academy — a program that helps young people make their dreams a reality. Actress Keke Palmer surprised Mitchell live on ABC’s “Good Morning America” show, in front of Mitchell’s teachers, principal and classmates in Jamaica Estates. Part of the TV broadcast included a message from Mitchell’s idol, Mae C. Jemison, an American engineer, physician and former NASA astronaut. Jemison became the first African-American woman in space. She read Mitchell’s essay and said it had all the ingredients for success — science, compassion and humanity.
