Father Paul A. Wood, a priest of the Diocese of Brooklyn who was chaplain for the Newman Center at Queens College, died on Jan. 31. He was 65.

“He loved being a priest,” said Father Tom Pettei, pastor of Resurrection–Ascension Parish, Rego Park, and episcopal vicar for Queens, who grew up in the same neighborhood and parish as Father Wood did. “He had a great sense of humor, though he was a very humble person.”

The funeral Mass for Father Wood was celebrated at the Immaculate Conception Center in Douglaston on Feb. 5. Bishop Nicholas DiMarzio was the main celebrant, and Auxiliary Bishop Raymond Chappetto delivered the homily. Burial was at St. John Cemetery, Middle Village.

Father Wood served as pastor at St. Stanislaus Kostka and Transfiguration, both in Maspeth, and he was a parochial vicar at St. Francis Xavier, Park Slope; St. Gabriel, East Elmhurst; and Holy Family, Park Slope.

Born in Queens, he attended St. Matthias School, Ridgewood, and Christ the King H.S., Middle Village. He studied at Cathedral College, Douglaston, and Immaculate Conception Seminary, Huntington, L.I.
