Sister Patricia O’Donohue, R.S.M.

Sister Patricia O’Donohue, R.S.M., formerly Sister Mary Aloysius, a member of the Sisters of Mercy of the Americas for 63 years, died Dec. 5 at McAuley Hall Health Center in New Jersey. She was 83.

Born in Brooklyn, Sister Patricia attended Holy Innocents Elementary School and Catherine McAuley H.S. in East Flatbush.

She earned a bachelor’s degree in Secondary Education/Social Studies from St. John’s University, Jamaica; a master’s in Religious Studies from Manhattan College and certificates in Spiritual Direction from the Center for Spirituality and Justice and the School of Spirituality.

Her ministries included Our Lady of Peace, Lynbrook, L.I., 1958-59; St. Patrick, Bay Shore, L.I., 1959-62; St. Thomas Aquinas, Flatlands, 1962-63; St. Mary’s, Roslyn, L.I., 1963-70; and Mercy H.S., Riverhead, L.I., 1970-71. 

Sister Patricia was the Religious Education Coordinator in St. Mary’s, Roslyn, 1971-83; St. Martin of Tours, Amityville, L.I., 1983-88; St. Agnes Cathedral, Rockville Centre, 1988-90; and Pastoral Associate at St. Elizabeth Seton, Ronkonkoma, L.I.,1990-95. From 1999 – 2006, she conducted Adult Education/Spirituality at St. Philip Neri, Northport, L.I.  In 2006, she became an Itinerant Theology Teacher until her retirement.

Her funeral Mass was celebrated at the Sisters of Mercy Convent in Whitestone. Burial followed in St. Charles Cemetery, Farmingdale.
