Whitestone Teens Don’t Sweat 100+ Meal Challenge for Charity

The Holy Trinity Youth Ministry Group in Whitestone set out to accomplish the “100+ meal challenge.”

Although it partakes in a variety of ministry projects throughout the year, the group believes that helping the hungry is its most important task.

They chose to help St. Fidelis and St. Benedict the Moor food banks.

Thanks to generous contributions from their own families and friends, Holy Trinity parishioners, Holy Trinity Academy, the Knights of Columbus and the College Meat Center in College Point, the youth group was able to collect a total of 149 meals for those in need.

The ministry is part of the diocese’s Catholic Youth Ministry Initiative, which is funded by the Catholic Foundation for Brooklyn and Queens.

Comprised of approximately 55 young adults, the group is also known as the Mission Very Possible (MVPs) Junior High Youth Ministry (grades six through eight) and the Vision In Progress (VIPs) High School Youth Ministry (grades nine through 12). They meet periodically to engage in Christian service opportunities as well as social and spiritual activities under the direction of Tom Lynch, director of youth ministry.

The MVPs and VIPs are in their seventh year performing acts of mercy that help those in need.
