Dear Editor: I need my sisters and brothers in the faith to explain to me what is offered in the “Common Cup” at Communion time.
It is my belief that when the wine has been consecrated it is “the Blood of Jesus.” For me, this Blood of Jesus among other things heals, cleanses, restores and strengthens me.
If we “look beyond the Cup from which we drink,” beyond the priest or the Extraordinary Minister of the Eucharist and “see our Saviour and Our Lord,” see Jesus offering Himself, then the issue of “sharing a common cup” becomes a non-issue.
It pains me to see my brothers and sisters refusing Jesus’ invitation: “Take and drink all of you,”some passing the minister with a smirk almost.
What do we teach those coming into the Faith?
Help me!
