Letters to the Editor

Two More Great Sisters

Dear Editor: I was very remiss in not noting the passing of Sister Mary Ronan I.H.M. some months ago. I was in her first teaching class, eighth grade, at Our Lady Queen of Martyrs School, Forest Hills, 1964-65.

She was a very sweet and kind person and I wouldn’t be surprised if her prayers and support did not aid me in getting into Catholic high school the following September.

Dear Editor: It was with great sadness that we have learned of the passing of one of Brooklyn’s best, Sister Bernadette Downes, C.I.J. This was a wonderfully vibrant, humorous, beautiful woman of faith, service and dedication to our diocese as well as to all persons with special needs.

She was truly one of a kind, a visionary whose impact has always been and will continue to be the hallmark of respect and support for everyone.

However, her greatest legacy will be the inspiration that she left on thousands of young people (like myself) who first became involved in special ministry through her example and fortitude. All that has been accomplished for and with persons with disabilities is directly attributed to Sister Bernadette and Msgr. Thomas Cribbin and their example.

I am most proud to have called her a friend and a supportive mentor. Brava, Bern, rest from your labors for your good deeds go with you!!!
