Dear Editor: In response to The Tablet’s editorial “Our Brothers” (April 22), I have written this letter. Thank you for doing this.

I have had the honor and the privilege of working with the Franciscan Brothers, both in Bishop Ford H.S. and St. Francis College.

They are true sons of St. Francis. Their students became immersed in the Franciscan tradition. They were introduced to St. Francis and St. Clare and were encouraged to follow St. Francis’ love for the poor in concrete ways.

When Dr. Frank Machiarolla was president of St. Francis College, himself a true Franciscan, he sent faculty and students yearly on pilgrimage to Assisi. This tradition exists in the college to this day.
