The NYC Teen SMS Text Crisis Counseling hotline provides teens at risk with immediate assistance 24/7. To contact a crisis counselor, users only need to text the number 65173.
The service, provided by the nonprofit Mental Health Association of New York City (MHA-NYC), seeks to help teens ages 14-18 who are in emotional distress and/or seeking referrals for treatment, as well as adults that work with or serve youth. Services are confidential.
LifeNet also provides suicide prevention support hotlines in English (1-800-543-3638), Spanish (1-877-298-3373), Cantonese and Mandarin (1-877-990-8585). Interpreters are available for more than 190 languages. Counselors are trained to accept calls from deaf individuals.
