Dear Editor: Thank you, Bishop DiMarzio, for your intelligent and heartfelt writings in support of the immigrants of the diocese.
The bishop reminds us that we need to have compassion for all in the human family, not just the American family. The bishop makes me wonder what we can do to personally support immigrants in the diocese. Can each parish sponsor a new immigrant family? Could the bishop direct priests to support this issue more boldly from the pulpit?
I love the bishop’s words but I think some parishes need support to know how to put them into action. Yes, we will keep praying and donating, but I think we would benefit from being more socially and physically involved in the issue. I hope our parishes can lead us in this effort.
