Synagogue to Host World Youth Day Pilgrims in Panama

While World Youth Day is known for bringing together young Catholics from around the globe, later this month it will also prove to be an interreligious affair when a local Jewish synagogue in Panama plays host to Catholic pilgrims during what is widely considered to be the Church’s most important event for young people.

WYD Cross, Icon Are Symbols Of Church’s Universality

When more than 100,000 young people gather with Pope Francis in Panama this January for World Youth Day, on prominent display will be two symbols that visited the Archdiocese of Chicago, Ill., Aug. 20. It was the first time these symbols visited Chicago. Much like the Olympic torch, the symbols make a pilgrimage to various countries leading up to World Youth Day.

The youth group from Incarnation parish, Queens Village, has one special goal in mind come January 2019: attending World Youth Day in Panama City, Panama. To help bring that to fruition, Father Christopher Bethge, parochial vicar, and Youth Minister Rose Ruesing are coming up with creative ways for the teens to offset the steep costs of the trip.

The next World Youth Day will take place in Panama in 2019. It has been scheduled for January instead of July due to the local weather. The changes are causing concerns for some, but almost all are still excited for the trip.

Youth Day Pilgrims Continue To Pray Together at Holy Hour

What initially was a Friday evening Holy Hour aimed at reuniting pilgrims who attended World Youth Day in Kraków this past summer, became a night that brought together a variety of people from around the diocese. Pilgrims and non-pilgrims alike gathered at the Immaculate Conception Center, Douglaston, for an hour in solemn prayer before the Blessed Sacrament.
