Shawn Slevin is the founder of Swim Strong Foundation, an organization with a mission to teach people to safely enjoy the water. That’s what brought her to St. Joan of Arc Catholic School in Jackson Heights on Sept. 30, where she presented a program, “Know Before You Go.”
Katie Marquardt, a senior point guard on the Fontbonne Hall Academy, Bay Ridge, varsity basketball team, became the first player in the history of the Fontbonne basketball program to earn an athletic scholarship to play in college.
The local attempt of the “Tread-A-Thon” takes place Wednesday, Sept. 27 at 5 p.m. at the St. Sebastian Parish Center in Woodside. Attendees are asked to arrive by 4:30 p.m.
