Msgr. King Tourney Keeps Tradition Alive (with video)

Walk into Msgr. King Hall at St. Thomas Aquinas parish, Flatlands, and you will immediately see that the parish’s sports association has done a fine job in keeping alive the many basketball memories of the past. And from Dec. 26 to 30, a new chapter of that storied history was written in the form of this year’s Msgr. King Basketball Tournament.

St. Thomas Aquinas, Flatlands, will host the 47th annual Msgr. King Basketball Tournament Dec. 26-30.

Holy Doors Open at St. Thomas Aquinas

Auxiliary Bishop Raymond Chappetto blessed and opened the Holy Doors at St. Thomas Aquinas Church, Flatlands. This growing parish has undergone some recent renovations and has a new tabernacle, which the bishop also blessed.

Sister Frances McCool, C.S.J.

Sister Frances McCool, C.S.J., formerly Sister St. Leonard, a Sister of St. Joseph, Brentwood, L.I., for 59 years, died Nov. 7 in Syosset Hospital, Syosset, L.I.

Giving Thanks Through the Sport of Hoops (with video)

During this time of year, we all take a step back and realize the countless blessings we have in our lives. And for a group of young athletes, their method of giving thanks was the sport of basketball at The St. Thomas Aquinas Sports Association’s Giving Thanks Basketball Classic.

Holy Doors: Preparing for the Year of Mercy

In the Diocese of Brooklyn, the Holy Year of Mercy will officially open on Sunday, Dec. 13, with the “opening” of Holy Doors at six different sites.

Sister Mary Estelle Conaty, R.S.M., a Sister of Mercy for 70 years, died at Mercy Center, Dallas, Pa., on Nov. 6. She was 88.

Sister Vincent Louise Tesoriero, C.S.J., 96, a Sister of St. Joseph, Brentwood, L.I., for 73 years, died Sept. 29, in Sacred Heart Convent, Hempstead, L.I.
