For many Christians during Lent, fasting is often a grudging afterthought: smaller meals on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday, no meat on Fridays. The idea of fasting, along with prayer and almsgiving, is to repent and grow in faith.

Saint Philomena, the patron saint of youth and babies, died on Aug. 10, 304, at the age of 13. She was canonized in 1837 and her feast day is Aug.11. An interesting fact is that she died on a Friday at 3 p.m. just like when Jesus did on Good Friday.
Relic Swiped as Queens Man Prays in East Harlem
An unidentified male stole a bag outside Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church on East 116th Street in Manhattan on Oct. 13. Inside was a second-class relic, a piece of stone from the Shrine of St. Michael on Mount Gargano in Italy.

Priest and Parish in Woodside Are ‘Fit’ to Serve
This is the third summer that the youth ministry at St. Sebastian’s, Woodside has sponsored the “Fit Club,” a program that gives youths a way to exercise and build up their faith. And it is a year after Father Henry Torres, a parochial vicar at St. Sebastian’s, started a weight-loss program after being warned about the health dangers his weight posed.

Mary quickly became my role model and the person I wanted to be like. I wanted her to teach me how to love without limits. Her love was so strong that she saw her only Son die on the cross, but that didn’t stop her faith in God. She shows how to trust in God’s plan.
The Camp Veritas Experience: Why You Should Go
Camp Veritas is a week-long sleep away camp for Catholic middle school and high school students. They have several camps over the summer and for the past two years St. Sebastian’s Youth Ministry has gone to the August camp located on the camp grounds of Camp Lakota in Wurtsboro, N.Y.
