Numerous offerings fill church calendars during the Lenten season, giving the faithful ways to renew and deepen their faith. But for Catholics who are deaf or hearing-impaired, trying to take part in these events can be a challenge.

One hundred and nine students from Catholic schools in Brooklyn and Queens were honored at the Tri-State Italian American Congress Scholarship Awards ceremony Feb. 27 at St. James Cathedral-Basilica, Downtown Brooklyn. Auxiliary Bishop James Massa presided as the awards were presented.

The annual Pro Vita Mass sponsored by the Knights of Columbus, will be held on Saturday, Jan. 28, at 5 p.m. at St. James Cathedral-Basilica, Downtown Brooklyn.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Msgr. George M. Schuster, pastor emeritus of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal parish, Ridgewood, was celebrated Dec. 7 at the church. He died Dec. 3 at New York Presbyterian Hospital. He was 85.
“In this church, thousands have passed through the door that celebrates the love of God,” said Bishop Tiedemann. “We gather in prayer and thanksgiving for the many blessings you and I have experienced as we passed through these doors.”
A Mass of Christian Burial for Father Thomas D. Dolan, a senior priest of the diocese, was celebrated Saturday, Nov. 5, at St. Elizabeth Church, Ozone Park, at 10:30 a.m.
Children from Catholic schools and religious education programs who either collected the most money or gave consistently throughout the years to benefit missions around the world joined St. James parishioners for their regularly scheduled Sunday morning Mass.
