I HAVE ALWAYS loved Holy Week. As I anticipate the next few days, I am recalling some experiences that I have had of Holy Week in years past. All are fond memories.
Holy Week is the most dramatic time of the year when it comes to the Church’s liturgy. During this upcoming week, we celebrate the essence of our faith – the passion, death and Resurrection of Jesus.
We are living in troubled times. All you had to do was to look around at the tight security that surrounded Holy Week services and you knew that these are not the best of times.
To prepare their parish community for Holy Week, youth ministry members and Confirmation candidates at Corpus Christi Church, Woodside, presented a Passion Play for the parish community.
Sunday is Palm Sunday and it begins the holiest week of the Church’s year. Not only do we have the opportunities to attend the official liturgies of the Sacred Triduum – Holy Thursday, Good Friday and Easter Sunday – but in Brooklyn and Queens we are fortunate to have a number of extra-liturgical events that help us observe the Passion of the Lord.

Dear Editor: It was inspiring to see the pictures of the many Good Friday devotions around the boroughs and to read about the beautiful Polish custom of blessing the Easter baskets on Holy Saturday morning.
Nearly 500 members of the Jornada Movement came together as one to share the mercy of God during their annual Caminata on March 26. The young people spent hours on the morning of Holy Saturday walking, praying the rosary and bearing witness to their faith in the streets of Queens.
Hundreds of people took part in the Good Friday procession organized by Most Precious Blood Church, Long Island City. Thirty-eight men carried six statues representing various scenes from the passion of Christ.
