Girls’ High School Basketball All Stars

After another exciting season of GCHSAA hoops action, here are the 2017-2018 Brooklyn/Queens girls’ high school basketball all-stars. The stats and pertinent information were provided by the league’s coaches.

The St. Francis Prep, Fresh Meadows, girls’ track team had a successful showing at the CHSAA indoor season intersectional championships.

Leary Left Lasting Legacy at St. Francis Prep

Tim Leary, who coached boys’ varsity basketball for 43 years at St. Francis Prep, Fresh Meadows, died Feb. 13 at the age of 73 after a nearly yearlong battle with gallbladder cancer.

Sports Round Up Feb. 24

In her last home game as a member of the Fontbonne Hall Academy varsity basketball team, senior guard Katie Marquardt scored her 1,000th career point on Feb. 7, a Senior Night victory over division rival Msgr. McClancy H.S.

Sports Round-Up Feb. 10

Casey O’Shaughnessy, a junior guard on the Bishop Kearney H.S., Bensonhurst, varsity basketball team, scored her 1,000th career point on Jan. 31.

Cathedral Bowls Its Way to Undefeated Season

For the junior varsity bowling team at Cathedral Prep and Seminary, Elmhurst, there were plenty of winning smiles as the team left the alley this past season.

Sports Round Up Feb. 3

Chris DiStefano, a 2006 graduate of St. Joseph’s College Brooklyn, Clinton Hill, was inducted Jan. 21 into the Bears Athletic Hall of Fame. The ceremony took place on Alumni and Family Day during halftime of the St. Joe’s matchup with the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, Kings Point, L.I.

Three HS Hoops Stars Named All-Americans

Catholic high school seniors Jordan Nixon, Emily Engstler and Moses Brown will play in the 2018 McDonald’s High School All-American basketball games.

Sports Round-Up Jan. 27

The first-ever Msgr. John J. Brown Memorial Girls Basketball Tournament wrapped up Martin Luther King Jr. weekend with some exciting hoops taking center court at St. Thomas Aquinas, Flatlands.
