Coach’s Grandsons Carry On His Basketball Legacy
Though he’s no longer physically with us, longtime St. Francis Prep basketball coach Tim Leary’s basketball legacy is being carried on in the Diocese of Brooklyn through his two grandsons: Aidan and Jack Leary.

The Christ the King H.S., Middle Village, girls’ varsity basketball team attended this year’s WNBA Inspiring Women Luncheon in New York City on Sept. 25. The event recognizes individuals who have blazed new paths on the court, in the boardroom and in the community.

Rivals Become Teammates on St. Joe’s Tennis Team
St. Joseph’s College Brooklyn senior Denise Trerotola and junior Valentina Velez Valencia make up the Bears pairing in first tennis doubles. Trerotola played at St. Saviour H.S., while Velez Valencia played at rival Bishop Kearney H.S.

Tom Dewey, the longtime cross-country/track and field coach at Fordham University, the Bronx, will be inducted into the school’s Athletic Hall of Fame on April 27, 2019.
O’Neill Siblings Guide Eagles to Soar
Four of the eight O’Neill siblings from St. Columba in Marine Park will be coaching sports this year at St. Edmund Prep H.S. in Sheepshead Bay.

Former Christ the King H.S., Middle Village, girls’ basketball legend Sue Bird was part of the Seattle Storm team that won this year’s WNBA championship, a three-game sweep of the Washington Mystics.
Cajuste Still Hanging On to NFL Dreams
In the first episode, I happened to recognize a familiar name on a player’s jersey: “Cajuste.” Local CHSFL fans surely remember the name of former Holy Cross H.S., Flushing, standout Devon Cajuste, who played his college football at Stanford University, Calif., and spent time in training camp with the San Francisco 49ers and as a member of the Green Bay Packers’ practice squad.
